  • แต่ในกรณีที่ต้องการเน้น สามารถนำมาไว้หน้าประโยคได้
As quickly as we could, we finished the work.

4. Adverb of Place เป็น adverb ที่ บอกว่าการกระทำนั้นเกิดขึ้นที่ไหน (Where) คำที่ใช้บ่อย เช่น
upstairs, downstairs, outside, inside, outdoors, indoors, here, there, somewhere, nowhere, everywhere, anywhere, elsewhere, home, southwards, backwards

นอกจากนั้นมีคำต่อไปนี้ ซึ่งถ้าใช้ตามหลังคำกริยาโดยไม่มีคำอื่นต่อท้ายอีกจึงจะทำหน้าที่เป็น Adverb of Place หากมีคำต่อท้ายจะทำหน้าที่เป็นบุพบท (preposition) above, along, at, across, after, about, around, away, by, below, before, back, behind, on, up, down, near, next, in, throug,h off, over, aside, under
เช่น

การใช้ Conjunctive Adverbs ในการเชื่อมอนุประโยค จะต้องใช้ semi colon ในการเชื่อมประโยคและคำ Conjunctive Adverbs ต้องมี comma ตาม ยกเว้น so และ otherwise ไม่ต้องมี comma เช่น
Bill went to school; however, he didn't attend classes. บิลไปโรงเรียนแต่ไม่ได้เข้าเรียน
The check was for more than the balance; consequently, it bounced. จำนวนเงินในเช็คนั้นมากกว่าเงินในบัญชี เช็คจึงเด้ง

We wanted to go on a picnic; the weather turned bad, however, and we weren't able to go.
We wanted to go on a picnic. The weather turned bad and we weren't able to go, however. ประโยคนี้ไม่ต้องมี semi colon เนื่องจากเป็น 2 ประโยคไม่ใช่ 2 อนุประโยค
โปรดสังเกตว่า semicolon เป็นเครื่องหมายเชื่อมอนุประโยค ไม่ใช่เครื่องหมายนำหน้า Conjunctive Adverbs

6. Interrogative Adverbs เป็นกริยาวิเศษณ์นำในประโยคคำถาม ได้แก่คำดังต่อไปนี้ why, where, how, when เช่น

หมายเหตุ คำบางคำอาจทำหน้าของกริยาวิเศษณ์ได้หลายอย่างเช่น undoubtedly เป็นได้ทั้ง conjunctive adverbs เชื่อมอนุประโยค และ Adverb of Certainty แสดงความแน่ใจ

การทำให้เป็นคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ (Formation )
Adverbs ส่วนมากมีแหล่งที่มาจากคำคุณศัพท์ ( adjectives ) โดยการเติมปัจจัย ( suffix ) -ly คำคุณศัพท์ตัวนั้นจะกลายเป็น คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ แต่ก็มี adverb บางคำที่มาจาก nouns โดยการเติม - ly เช่น
nouns
adverbs

daydailyรายวัน
weekweeklyรายสัปดาห์
monthmonthlyรายเดือน
yearyearlyรายปี

A. Adverb of Manner ที่มาจาก adjectives โดยการเติม -ly
Adverbs ที่มาจาก adjectives ส่วนมากจะเป็น Adverbs of Manner โดยมีหลักการเติม - ly ข้างท้ายดังนี้
  1. เติม - ly โดยตรง เช่น
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      bad  badly
      complete  completely
      normal  normally
      surprising  surprisingly
  2. Adjectives ที่ลงท้ายด้วย ic เติม - al และตามด้วย -ly เช่น
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      dramatic  dramatically
      scientific  scientifically
      specific  specifically
  3. Adjectives ที่ลงท้ายด้วย le หากหน้า -le เป็นอักษรเสียงพยัญชนะ เปลี่ยน e เป็น y
    AdjectivesAdverbs of Manner
      favorable  favorably
      humble  humbly
      simple  simply
  4. Adjective ที่ลงท้ายด้วย le หากหน้า le เป็นอักษรเสียงสระส่วนมากจะเติม ly เลย เช่น
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      agile  agilely
      sole  solely

    ยกเว้น whole ซึ่ง e ถูกตัดออกก่อนเติม ly
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      whole  wholly
  5. Adjectives ที่ลงท้ายด้วย ll เติม y เพียงตัวเดียว เช่น
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      dull  dully
      full  fully
  6. Adjectives ลงท้ายด้วย ue อักษร e ตัวสุดท้ายจะถูกตัดออกไปก่อนเติม ly เช่น
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      due  duly
      true  truly
  7. Adjectives ที่ลงท้ายด้วย y โดยมีอักษรเสียงพยัญชนะนำหน้า y โดยทั่วไปจะเปลี่ยน y เป็น i ก่อนเติม ly เช่น
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      busy  busily
      easy  easily
      happy  happily
      angry  angrily

    ยกเว้น adjectives shy และsly ซึ่งจะเติม ly เลยโดยไม่ต้องเปลี่ยนรูป เช่น
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      shy  shyly
      sly  slyly

    ยกเว้น adjective gay ซึ่ง y เปลี่ยนเป็น i ก่อนเติม ly ดังนี้
    AdjectiveAdverb of Manner
      gay  gaily

adverbs ที่ลงท้ายด้วย ly ส่วนมากเป็น adverbs of manner แต่ก็มี adverb ชนิดอื่นที่ลงท้ายด้วย ly. เช่น consequently และ subsequently ซึ่งเป็น conjunctive adverbs. นอกจากนี้ยังมี Adverbs of Time ( frequency ) ซึ่งเติม ly เมื่อมาจาก adjective ดังนี้

หมายเหตุ
  1. การใช้ทั้ง good และ well ในการเปรียบเทียบขั้น comparative คือ better และในขั้น superlative คือ best
  2. นอกจากใช้เป็น adverb แล้ว คำว่า well ยังใช้เป็น adjective มีความหมายว่ามีสุขภาพดี ( healthy ).อยู่ในรูปของ predicative adjective. เช่น

  yearlyyearly

แต่อย่างไรก็ดี มี adjectives บางตัวที่ลงท้ายด้วย ly ซึ่งไม่มี adverb ที่สอดคล้องกัน เช่น friendly, likely, lively, lonely, silly, ugly
เมื่อต้องการที่จะใช้คำเหล่านี้ขยายกริยา ต้องทำเป็นวลี เช่น
He behaved in a friendly manner. เขาทำตัวเป็นมิตร
